The Tomb of Noor Jahan is a picturesque mausoleum located in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. It stands tall and proud as one of the most exquisite monuments in the country and serves as a lasting tribute to its namesake – the beloved Mughal Empress, also known as Mehr-un-Nisaa. The grandeur of this beautiful structure is truly remarkable and it continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
The tomb was constructed during the rule of Mughal Emperor Jahangir in 1618 and was designed by Ustad Hamid. It is crafted out of white marble with ornamental carvings on its exterior walls that depict intricate floral patterns. Inside, two cenotaphs are placed inside, one belonging to Noor Jahan herself and another belonging to her husband Jahangir. Both cenotaphs are surrounded by many fine objects such as vases, incense burners and pendants; all crafted out of precious materials such as jade, gold, silver and ivory.
The tombs are also decorated with verses from the Quran written in Arabic calligraphy along with Persian poetry praising Noor Jahan's beauty. The four corners contain images or illustrations of angels or figures who represent both good luck and protection for those buried within. The upper portion is adorned with a marble canopy that contains symbols such as lotus petals representing eternal life.
The tomb of Noor Jahan has some other features too that make it even more special like an elevated platform where visitors can stand and admire its beauty from afar without being disturbed. Additionally, there is a gateway at each side of the mausoleum leading towards a beautiful garden which provides a peaceful contrast to both the bustling city outside and solemn interior within the mausoleum itself.
Finally, visitors should note that if one wants to visit this majestic site they must do so between sunset and sunrise since visiting outside these times requires approval from local authorities due to safety reasons - but regardless it makes for a truly unforgettable experience!
